Dodgers Shohei Ohtani ‘still months away’ from pitching return

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best teams in Major League Baseball early in the season, following a World Series win in 2024.

The Dodgers are 14-6 this season and are 1.5 games back from the San Diego Padres, who are leading the division. Despite not pitching since the 2023 season, Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani was named the National League Most Valuable Player in 2024 and has performed well in the 2025 season.

Ohtani has been making strides toward a return to the mound, but while speaking on The Jim Rome Show, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented that Ohtani is still a couple of months away from taking the mound but is expected to pitch this season.

“So, he looked great,” Roberts said. “I know he’s got another light bullpen today, he’s got a full one Saturday and hopefully soon Romey he’s going to start facing some hitters. Time of return, we’re still a couple of months away.”

“I know that’s still vague, but we’re just trying to get to the next step, get to the next step and see where we’re at. But certainly expect him to pitch for us this year and through the postseason.”

Ohtani is making his presence felt despite not pitching, clubbing six home runs and driving in eight runs, while slashing .288/.380/.930 through 20 games this season. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old two-way player won’t take the mound for a while longer. The Dodgers have a solid starting rotation in the meantime while they wait for Ohtani to make his return.
