Angels’ Zach Neto gets big injury update

Zach Neto was spotted in the Long Beach airport on Thursday.

That lines up with what the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are saying: Neto is pretty much back.

Neto has yet to play this season after undergoing offseason right shoulder surgery.

His big rehab step this week came Tuesday and Wednesday, when Neto played consecutive games as the for Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Angels are expected to activate Neto on Friday, per MLB.com.

“He’s been fine,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. “Got hit yesterday on the wrist, but he’s fine. So far, so good. He’s on track to be where he should be when it’s time for him to come back.”

Neto slugged 23 home runs and stole 30 bases last season.

He hurt his right shoulder on a slide into second base on a steal attempt late in the 2024 regular season.

“He’s just champing at the bit to get back,” Washington said. “He really wants to get back and we want him back. We just been having good conversations about his workouts, what he’s feeling. But I just think when you commit to something — that’s just me now — when you commit to something, you see it out. You see it all the way through. That purpose for that period of time is there for a reason. And I just think you see it all the way through, but I don’t make that call.”

Neto played 13 rehab games with Salt Lake to get ready. He batted .286 with four home runs, three doubles and eight RBI.

Soon enough, the 24-year old rising star will be back in the big leagues. And we’ll be able to say we saw Neto before he was really famous.
