Brian Windhorst’s hotel bookings predict which 6 teams can win NBA Finals

Brian Windhorst already has his NBA Finals hotel rooms booked.

The ESPN reporter recently shared this fact on the Pardon My Take podcast. And really, it’s not uncommon operating procedure for a national reporter who knows he’ll be at the season-ending series.

But what’s more interesting is that Windhorst didn’t make cancellable hotel reservations in every city. He just picked five hotels.

Those cities: Boston, Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Los Angeles and Denver.

Windhorst said he booked Boston first.

“I booked a certain hotel that I want in Boston,” Windhorst said. “I booked it in October for the Finals. And I booked the Boston hotel for the whole Finals, whether they’re at home or wherever they’re at, because they’re going to probably be there. I booked it out.”

Oklahoma City came next, around the holidays.

Then it was Cleveland.

“There was this stretch where they went on one of their winning streaks,” Windhorst said. “It was uncanny. Every game, a coach would come in or a player would come in and be like, ‘This team is good.’ I was like, ‘Alright, Cleveland on the list.’ Booked.”

Windhorst wouldn’t quite give away for which L.A. team he chose Los Angeles, but he made the case for both the Clippers and Lakers.

“I would favor the Clippers to do it more than the Lakers, but the Lakers draw, of all the draws you can have, the Lakers draw is probably the favorable,” he said.

Windhorst’s final reservation didn’t see the shocking firing of Michael Malone coming.

“I just have so much respect for Nikola (Jokic),” Windhorst said.

If a team other than that grouping makes the Finals, Windhorst might have a mad scramble to find a hotel.

But his list is pretty strong. The top-two seeds in the East, along with the 1-, 3-, 4- and 5-seeds in the West.

The best teams left off his list are likely the 2-seed Rockets and 7-seed Warriors in the West, and the 3-seed Knicks in the East.

We’ll see how well-prepared Windhorst really is.
