NBA insider reveals shocking information about Mavericks’ closed press conference, defends GM Nico Harrison

Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison held his first press conference yesterday after trading Luka Doncic, and it was quite different than most pressers. It was limited media, closed doors, and media were only allowed to transcribe the conference, not record with video.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, this wasn’t Harrison’s choice. Charania revealed on NBA Countdown that it was actually Mavs owner Patrick Dumont who made the presser happen.

“Nico Harrison did not want to do this closed-door roundtable. This was not his idea. This was something that was enforced by their owner, Patrick Dumont,” said Charania.

In the meeting, Harrison talked about multiple things, including that he had no regrets trading Doncic, and that he did it with the future of the franchise in mind. He also said he did it to upgrade defensively, and that Doncic’s conditioning was not up to par.

Why was it so secretive? Probably due to the fact that Harrison didn’t even want to do a presser at all, so they laid some ground rules to make it easier on him. An open-air press conference could make his reputation already worse than what it is, which isn’t much.

Overall, many fans are still outraged at the fact that the Mavs traded Doncic, and more are even angrier due to the fact that Harrison was reluctant to talk about it, and doubled down on his reasoning. Hopefully this trade pans out for the Mavs, or else their franchise’s future looks grim.
