Rockets, Kevin Durant trade talks get major update before playoffs

Kevin Durant can only watch the NBA Playoffs from afar.

Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets are getting ready to host the Golden State Warriors as the Western Conference’s No. 2 seed.

But what KD fans want to know is this: Can the Rockets acquire Durant this offseason?

An emphatic answer came from NBA insider Marc Stein on Thursday night.

Stein and his co-worker Jake Fischer wrote that Durant is “less likely” than previously thought to have a chance of going to Houston.

Durant “is not on the same timeline as Houston’s young core,” writes Stein.

KD will turn 37 in December.

While still an all-time great bucket getter, Durant didn’t look quite as capable in Phoenix of putting an entire team on his shoulders.

The Rockets are already strong at every position in their lineup. Adding Durant would be fun, but at what cost?

Houston has a multi-year window of contention opening up, and Durant would instead the compress the timeline way down.

So if Durant hopes to join a playoff team before next season, he’ll likely have to look somewhere other than Houston.

Hey, why not the team on the other side during the Rockets’ opening round playoff series? We’ve heard Durant and Steph Curry have a pretty great history together.
