Steelers predicted to land Aaron Rodgers contingency plan in trade with Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have the 31st overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. They could be looking to trade up and acquire a premier lineman, but they will have to find the right trade partner.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be that team. The Steelers could be interested in a quarterback after Aaron Rodgers was noncommittal during his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” However, their 21st overall pick might not be good enough to land Shedeur Sanders. However, if they are interested in Jaxson Dart, they could be willing to trade back.

RotoWire’s Mario Puig predicted the Chiefs and Steelers would make a draft day trade that allows the Steelers to draft Dart and lands Josh Simmons in Kansas City.

“The Chiefs are presumably a little more focused on the offensive line after their inability to manage the Philadelphia pass rush all but immediately ended the Super Bowl,” wrote Puig. “Simmons’ ACL recovery might make 2025 a redshirt year, but the Chiefs were going to give this year to Jaylon Moore anyway. When healthy Simmons would be a sound long-term projected starter for Kansas City at left tackle.”

Even if Simmons cannot start right away, he would be a long-term investment. He is a versatile lineman and could slot in at guard or tackle. If the Chiefs wait around until pick No.31, they may not find an elite offensive lineman in the draft.

Meanwhile, the Steelers would be able to add draft capital, replenishing what they lost in the DK Metcalf trade. The Steelers would likely be comfortable trading back if Dart is their target.
