The Masters offers the toughest cut line of any of the four majors, so at least some of the world’s most prominent golfers won’t get to play out the weekend in Augusta.
Last year, Viktor Hovland, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas were among the biggest names not to make it past the second round. With nearly picture-perfect weather at Augusta National this time around, any mistake could be the difference between elimination and a chance to chase a green jacket.
Some golfers have already separated themselves from the pack this year and appear to be safe from the cut line, but plenty of players will be holding their breath on Friday.

What is the cut line for 2025 Masters?
The projected cut line for the Masters in 2025 is 2-over par through one round. The cut line was 6-over in 2024.
Because so many players are tied for 50th, there are currently 62 golfers above the cut line. 60 made the cut in 2024.
Some of the most notable names near the cut line are Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, Wyndham Clark, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Cantlay. All are within one stroke of the cut line, whether above or below, and will have to fight to stay in the field on Friday.
Masters Tournament cut rules
Only the top 50 players (plus ties) make the cut at the Masters. This rule was put into effect during the 2020 Masters to keep the weekend field small during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before the rule change, any player within 10 strokes of the leader after 36 holes advanced to the weekend. This was in addition to the top-50 players in the field (plus ties), so it made for a larger field advancing to the weekend.
The rule change established that the Masters cut is the most difficult among golf’s four majors. The top 60 players make the cut at the U.S. Open, and the top 70 golfers do so at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship.

Masters 2025 cut line
The projected Masters cutline through one round is 1-over par, and that figure can change based on Friday’s action. Last year’s cut line was 6-over par.
- Cut line: +1
- Players inside cut line: 50
How many players make the cut at the Masters?
95 golfers teed off on Thursday in Augusta, six more than last year, but many won’t make it to the weekend. Only the top 50 (plus ties) will make the cut, while the rest of the field will have to watch the rest of the action.
In 2024, 60 golfers managed to make the cut due to a significant number of players tied for the top 50.
