As the NBA playoffs are approaching, the Western Conference still has a lot to settle.
The Timberwolves made a strong playoff run last year, earning the No. 2 seed in the West and making it all the way to the conference finals. This year, however, Minnesota is one of many teams fighting to stay out of the play-in tournament.
Entering the final week of the regular season, the Timberwolves have four games to cement their spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Here’s a breakdown of where Minnesota stands heading into the final stretch.

Timberwolves playoff scenarios 2025
The Timberwolves are one of several teams still fighting for playoff positioning in the West.
Minnesota could rise as high as third in the conference with a strong finish to the season, but they could also fall as low as eighth with a disappointing end. The Timberwolves are most likely to finish anywhere between the fifth- and eighth-seeds, which are currently held by the four teams with a 46-32 record.
Therefore, it is very possible that the Timberwolves will be subject to tiebreakers once the final records are set.

Timberwolves potential playoff opponents
Even though the regular season ends on Sunday, the Timberwolves have multiple potential playoff opponents. Entering their final four games, Minnesota holds the seven-seed and would be set to play the Grizzlies in the play-in tournament next week.
However, the situation is fluid and is subject to change. The Clippers and Warriors are also tied with Minnesota in the standings and could play the Timberwolves in the play-in tournament, but they currently hold the final two spots in the playoffs.
If the Timberwolves earn a top-six seed in the playoffs before the season ends, they could play the Lakers, who hold the three-seed or the Nuggets, who hold the four-seed. Additionally, Minnesota can still host any of these teams in the playoffs if they make the leap to a three- or four-seed in the next week.
