Bayern Munich rocked by injury blow for Champions League battle vs. Inter Milan

Bayern Munich bolstered their position at the top of the Bundesliga table with a resounding 3-1 win over Augsburg at the WWK Arena on April 4.

The Bavarians are now six points clear of reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen after 28 league games with a title win firmly on the horizon.

Vincent Kompany’s men were 1-0 down following Dimitris Giannoulis’ early goal. However, second-half strikes from Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and a late own goal from Chrislain Matsima, helped the visitors secure a crucial victory.

While, Bayern secured an important three points on the road, the main post-game headline was an injury setback for Musiala – with the Germany international suffering a hamstring injury before being replaced by Thomas Muller.

Sky Germany have dealt a hammer blow to Bayern Munich fans, with the indication that Musiala has torn his left hamstring and will be out for at least eight weeks. Even if Kompany is successful in getting Musiala back fit before the end of the campaign, he will miss their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first-leg clash with Inter Milan on April 8.

Bayern Munich already have a lengthy injury list and the 21-year-old is the latest name added to a growing roster of absentees.

Who will replace Musiala in Bayern’s midfield?

Musiala is pivotal to Kompany’s style of play and he has developed a great understanding with Harry Kane which Bayern Munich will miss in the quarterfinals.

In terms of replacement options, Leroy Sane and Michael Olise can play in Musiala’s position, but they generally prefer to play out wide. Veteran Muller could be a starting option as he prepares to bring down the curtain on his career in Munich.

Kompany’s Bayern Munich injury list: Who is out?

The German giants are on the back foot ahead of their Champions League return with seven players missing due to injury.

The list includes Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano, who suffered injuries during the international break. Along with them, Hiroki Ito also fractured his metatarsal and will be on the sidelines for a prolonged period.

Manuel Neuer is a 50-50 fitness call and there are doubts over the availability of Aleksandar Pavlovic and Kingsley Coman.

It will be a tough challenge for Kompany to adjust and secure the desired result to prolong his European adventure in 2025.
