Luka Doncic sends blunt message after Lakers’ loss to Warriors

Los Angeles Lakers fans can be vicious sometimes. If Luka Doncic spends any amount of time on Twitter/X today, the superstar guard will find that out quickly. The pitchforks were pointed directly at him after last night’s disappointing 123-116 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers fell behind in this game, trailing by significant double-digit margins throughout multiple points of the contest. The effort for Los Angeles certainly ramped up as the game progressed.

LeBron James and Austin Reaves were the catalysts for powering the Lakers back into the game. Despite 33 points from James and 31 from Reaves, including nine 3-pointers, the comeback efforts of Los Angeles ultimately fell short here.

Doncic had one of his more disappointing performances with the Lakers in this one. On one hand, the final tallies of 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists do not look too bad. However, Doncic shot 6-of-17 in this game. The Lakers superstar really did not get things going until the third quarter either.

With many quick to scapegoat Doncic for the loss, the All-NBA level talent quickly got ahead of the critics. Doncic was ready to take full responsibility for the lackluster offensive performance against the Warriors.

“That performance from me is unacceptable,” Luka admitted to the media at the postgame press conference. “When I play like that, it’s hard to win so [I] gotta figure it out.”

The Lakers and the Warriors are two of the most interesting teams in the NBA since the trade deadline passed. Both teams made massive moves before the time to make trades ran out. Both have looked like contenders ever since.

If the season ended today, the fourth-seeded Lakers would face the fifth-seeded Warriors in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs. If Los Angeles wants to win a series against Golden State in this year’s postseason, they will need a much stronger game than the one provided on Thursday night.
