Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach rematch planned for June

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs Lamont ‘The Reaper’ Roach rematch is reportedly being eyed for June 21st.

ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez reported that a June 21st date at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is in the works.

The long-term rivals fought to a stalemate on March 1st in Brooklyn, with scores of 114-114 twice and 115-113 to the WBA lightweight champion, Davis.

Typically with the sport, there was a controversial moment in round nine when Tank took a knee, then walked to his corner to have the grease from his hair wiped from his eyes.

The WBA super-featherweight champion, Roach, who came up a division to challenge Davis, argued that he should have won, “If you voluntarily take a knee and the ref’s not counting, that’s a knockdown,” the 29-year-old stated. “If that’s a knockdown, I win the fight.”

Pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford agreed with him, posting his support on social media, “Roach won and that should have been called a knockdown. I never seen someone take a knee and they don’t count it as a knockdown.”

The New York State Athletic Commission declined to overturn the result based on the evidence.

After sharing a rivalry that dates back over 14 years to the amateurs, the resolution to their pro fight was inconclusive, so the score certainly needs to be settled soon.

The proposed June 21st date means that fight fans only have under three months to wait.
