Latest Giancarlo Stanton injury update is more bad news for Yankees

The New York Yankees are just about set to begin the 2025 regular season, and they’ll do so without some significant star power in the middle of the lineup.

Though reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge is set to lead the way, New York will be without slugger Giancarlo Stanton to begin the season, and it doesn’t appear he’s going to make his return to the lineup anytime soon.

Dealing with bilateral elbow tendonitis, Stanton has been receiving PRP injections for roughly a month since it was revealed that he was ailing at the start of spring training. The latest update from Greg Joyce of The New York Post was more of the same for the 35-year-old.

“The veteran DH, dealing with tendinitis in both elbows, is just over three weeks removed from his third round of PRP injections,” Joyce wrote. “Indications are the shots have helped to an extent, but have not been a cure-all, as Stanton has not resumed baseball activities and remains out indefinitely. He was headed back to New York with the team on Tuesday and will continue his treatment there.”

It’s expected that Stanton will begin the season on the injured list and considering the fact that he hasn’t even resumed baseball activities, it’s fair to assume he will land on the 60-day list. That also allows the Yankees to add another body to the 40-man roster.

It hasn’t been determined whether Stanton needs surgery but if he does, it will be the end of his season. Meanwhile, the Yankees are likely going to lean heavily on second-year lefty Ben Rice to fill the void at designated hitter in addition to giving Judge some half-days here and there.

Stanton is a crucial part of the Yankees lineup, but New York is essentially preparing to be without him for a significant portion of the season.
