For a night, Obi Toppin looked exactly like the player the New York Knicks drafted him to be.
Only problem: His days of becoming a Knicks savior are long gone. He plays for the Indiana Pacers now, and he might’ve just played the best game of his career.
Toppin capped it all off with a fading 3-pointer from the left corner to leapfrog the Minnesota Timberwolves with 3.5 seconds left. Indiana hung on to win, 132-130 in overtime. The game only got to OT because T.J. McConnell hit a game-tying shot at the end of regulation.

Toppin finished the night with 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor, including a ridiculous 7-of-10 from 3-point land.
The big fella also grabbed 10 rebounds to notch a double-double.
It marks the most 3-pointers Toppin has ever made in an NBA game. It’s not his scoring career high, because he actually put up 42 points in a late-season game for the Knicks back in 2022 against the Raptors.
Along with some highlight, poster dunks, this shot likely goes down as one of Toppin’s most memorable NBA plays.
The former Dayton Flyer went No. 8 overall to the Knicks in the 2020 NBA Draft. He spent three seasons with New York, making just 15 starts.
Toppin joined the Pacers for the 2023-24 season and started 28 games last campaign.
On Monday, Toppin made his first start of the season and made it count. He played a remarkable 44 minutes and 56 seconds for the short-handed Pacers to help stun the Timberwolves.
Whether Toppin’s career still has extra legs remains to be seen. But he’ll always have this night and this shot.
