Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum takes obvious dig at 76ers after recent signing of NBA champion

The Philadelphia 76ers brought in some championship experience when they signed Oshae Brissett to a 10-day contract. Brissett helped the Boston Celtics win their 18th title in 2024.

Although Brissett only played with the Celtics for one season, he developed close bonds with some of their best players, like Jayson Tatum. After Brissett officially joined the Sixers, Tatum expressed his happiness for his ex-teammate, though he also managed to slip in a little jab at the Sixers.

“That’s my brother. (I’m) happy for him. He definitely deserves to be in the league, so hopefully, he can find a home — even if it’s in Philadelphia. That’s always my guy,” Tatum told Boston reporters.

Tatum has a history with the Sixers, dating back to when he first came to the NBA in 2017. The Celtics got him because the Sixers exchanged the third overall pick, which was used to draft Tatum, for the first overall pick, which was used to draft Markelle Fultz.

Since then, Tatum has faced the Sixers three times in the playoffs—in 2018, 2020, and 2023—and has beaten them every time. The Sixers have more often than not been right up there with the Celtics at the top of the Eastern Conference for the last several years.

Brissett won’t do much to change the Sixers’ fortunes, but he gives them another body to help weather the storm for the rest of the 2025 season. There’s no telling if Philadelphia sees him as a long-term asset, but he has been part of a championship team. There is a scenario where his influence could help the Sixers get themselves back on track as a contender.
