The football world is still waiting for former Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to sign with a team for the 2025 NFL season. He was released by the New York Jets a few days ago, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings are the three teams that seem to be in the running for him.
The Steelers were thought to be the favorites to sign him, but over the last couple of days, the Vikings seem to have the inside track on landing the future Hall of Famer, as he reportedly is “hoping” to join the Packers’ bitter NFC North rivals.
The team that ends up with him will have to pay him a considerable amount of money for his services. The Athletic reported that he is looking for a contract with an average salary similar to the one Sam Darnold just got with the Seattle Seahawks.
Darnold agreed to a three-year, $100.5 million deal, and he will make a fully guaranteed $37.5 million for the 2025 campaign.
“Rodgers, in the wake of his release by the New York Jets, is seeking an annual salary in the same general range as Darnold’s — though that’s not expected to be a major stumbling block,” Michael Silver, Dianna Russini and Alec Lewis wrote.
Rodgers, 41, threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. While he’s clearly past his prime, he could perhaps help a team such as the Vikings, who went 14-3 and came to the brink of earning the NFC’s top playoff seed, compete against anyone this fall and winter.
