The Spurs season has taken another hit.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports De’Aaron Fox will undergo surgery to repair a tendon in his left pinkie finger. Fox first suffered the injury in training camp but played through the injury with the Kings and Spurs this season.
San Antonio traded for Fox before the trade deadline, but the point guard only played a few games with star forward Victor Wembanyama before the star center was declared out for the season with a blood clot in his shoulder. Now, San Antonio will hope that Fox and Wembanyama can grow together beginning next season.
Here is the latest on Fox’s injury.

How long is De’Aaron Fox out?
Fox will miss the rest of the season once he has left pinkie surgery. According to Charania, Fox and the Spurs opted for the surgery now so he can be ready to train with the rest of the team during the offseason.
Fox should be healthy well before the 2025-26 season is set to begin.
De’Aaron Fox injury explainer
Fox suffered tendon damage in his left pinkie during training camp in October, but he was able to play through the injury throughout the season. If the Spurs were in playoff contention, Fox would be able to continue playing through the injury, but since San Antonio is 27-37 and in 12th place in the Western Conference, Fox will instead miss the rest of the season by getting surgery early.
