Former ROY expected to receive $375 million extension from Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles, despite losing a few key pieces this past offseason in Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander, have a promising future ahead of them.

Their young core is still intact and should help them remain a postseason contender in 2025. Even with a few losses this past winter, they have stars such as Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Jordan Westburg and Jackson Holliday on the roster.

A few of their young stars could be in line for contract extensions soon. Henderson might be next in line, and Tim Britton of The Athletic predicts that if Baltimore gives him an extension, it will be in the neighborhood of 12 years and $375 million.

“It’s hard to imagine another player catching Juan Soto in terms of total value in a contract. But Henderson might be the active player with the best chance of approaching Soto’s $51 million average annual value. Another MVP-caliber season from the shortstop, and this price will go up yet again,” Britton wrote.

Henderson earned American League Rookie of the Year honors back in 2023. Last season, he put up some very impressive numbers, slashing .281/.364/.529 with 37 home runs, 92 RBI, 21 stolen bases, an .893 OPS and a 9.1 WAR.

Another season like last year will certainly drive his price up and put him in line for an even bigger extension than what Britton projected.

Henderson also has an All-Star selection to his name, as well as a Silver Slugger award. 2025 figures to be another big year for him. We’ll see if he can put up similar numbers and increase his value.
