Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole’s wife Amy shares message following shocking season-ending injury

Gerrit Cole just received the heartbreaking news that he must undergo Tommy John Surgery, and his wife is showing her support.

The 34-year-old New York Yankees pitcher took to his Instagram on Monday, March 10, to share the devastating news with his fans with a touching note. “From the time I first dreamed of wearing the Yankees uniform, my goal has always been to help bring a World Series championship to New York. That dream hasn’t changed—I still believe in it, and I’m more determined than ever to achieve it,” he wrote alongside a photo of him walking out onto the field, holding his glove.

“Today, the most respected medical experts in the field recommend that I undergo Tommy John surgery. This isn’t the news any athlete wants to hear, but it’s the necessary next step for my career,” Cole continued, adding, “I have a lot left to give, and I’m fully committed to the work ahead. I’ll attack my rehab every day and support the 2025 Yankees each step of the way. I love this game, I love competing, and I can’t wait to be back on the mound—stronger than ever.”

Many fans took to the comments to show their support, including one fan who wrote, “You are a warrior and I know that you will attack rehab with everything you have. That’s who you are!”

“You’ll come back stronger! I know you’ll surely be missed this season but I know you’ll be supporting your brothers every step of the way,” another fan shared, while a third fan sadly wrote, “Heartbroken.”

His wife,  Amy Cole, also took to her Instagram stories to share her husband’s update with a simple blue heart to show her support.

Gerrit didn’t make his season debut last year until June due to experiencing right elbow discomfort. However, he ended up having a solid season, pitching to a 3.41 ERA in 95 innings in the regular season. Then, he helped usher the Yankees to the World Series, although the team ultimately lost against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 7-6 final.

Gerrit will be undergoing his surgery in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute. The Yankees have not provided a date for when Gerrit can return to the game, but pitchers generally need 12 to 18 months to fully recover.
