The Atlanta Hawks have been a middle of the pack team for years now, headlined by their sole superstar, Trae Young. He’s had a star next to him for some of the time, but never another superstar.
However, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz believes the Hawks will finally get him one this offseason. Swartz has predicted the Hawks will go out and trade for ex-Thunder superstar Kevin Durant.
The trade would look like this:
Atlanta Hawks Get: Kevin Durant
Phoenix Suns Get: Zaccharie Risacher, Onyeka Okongwu, Terance Mann, 2025 first-round pick (top-12 protected via Sacramento Kings)
“The Atlanta Hawks will need to aggressively improve the roster this summer, as Trae Young can become an unrestricted free agent in 2026,” Swartz wrote. “As good as the four-time All-Star is, Young is probably best suited to be a No. 2 option on a championship team rather than a leading man.”
Swartz continued, stating since the Hawks don’t have first-rounders for a couple years, they need to get into a win-now mentality.
“A trade for Durant makes the Hawks competitive immediately, which is important since the San Antonio Spurs control Atlanta’s next two first-round picks.”
This would be Durant’s fifth team in his career, spending almost the first decade of his career with Oklahoma City, then three years with the Golden State Warriors, three years with the Brooklyn Nets, and now almost three years with the Phoenix Suns.
Durant has gained a reputation of being a ring-chaser, after leaving OKC for Golden State after the Warriors came back from a 3-1 deficit in 2016 to beat the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. With that in mind, Atlanta might not be a spot he would want to be traded to.
If he does though, the Hawks would immediately become a playoff team. With Young, Durant, and the young stars and veterans Atlanta has, they have a shot at rivaling the top dogs.
