Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox opens up about time with Kings ahead of his return to Sacramento

The red-hot Sacramento Kings will face off against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night as De’Aaron Fox makes his return to Sacramento.

Of course, the Kings traded Fox to the Spurs ahead of the trade deadline due to him not wanting to commit to the franchise long-term.

It was a disappointing ending for the two sides, especially with how important Fox was to the Kings on and off the court during his eight seasons with them.

With Fox making his first trip to Sacramento since being traded, he recently opened up about his time with the Kings and ultimately what went wrong to ESPN’s Michael Wright.

“I truly wanted to play for one team my whole career,” Fox told ESPN. “I really did.”

It is clear that Fox wanted to remain with the Kings, but with them not laying out the long-term plan that Fox wanted to hear, along with Sacramento firing head coach Mike Brown, the star point guard was eventually traded away.

“I loved it,” Fox said of Sacramento. “Everybody bled purple. It was always great just going to the grocery store, going out to a restaurant. Everybody there was extremely kind. And when we started winning, then it was ‘light the beam’ everywhere. You really felt it around the city. So, it was definitely a great place to be for as long as I was.”

While Fox loved playing for the Kings due to the city and the fans, it was clear by the end of his time there that he had grown frustrated with the organization as a whole.

Despite this, Fox said that he never demanded a trade out of Sacramento, but they instead approached him about potentially trading him ahead of the deadline.

Of course, that is exactly what they did as they sent the 27-year-old point guard to San Antonio, which was his preferred landing spot due to Victor Wembanayama.
