The Philadelphia 76ers may be done for the season this year, but next year is a whole different kettle of fish. If they make some moves this offseason, they could put themselves back at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Fadeaway World’s Eddie Bitar predicted a signing that would be a great first step, with the Sixers signing Washington Wizards guard Malcolm Brogdon.
“Malcolm Brogdon’s ability to play both guard spots and defend multiple positions makes him a valuable asset in free agency. The injury history is a concern, but his efficiency and off-ball skills fit seamlessly on a contender and he is only two seasons away from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals with the Boston Celtics while winning Sixth Man of the Year,” Bitar wrote.
Bitar continued, listing the Sixers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and one of Brogdon’s former teams, the Indiana Pacers, all as potential landing spots.
“The Lakers or Sixers could use his versatility, while a chance with the Pacers might be on the table if they can make the money work. A mid-level exception deal for 2-3 years seems like the sweet spot for Brogdon, giving him a chance to contribute without breaking the bank,” Bitar stated.
Brogdon this year has dealt with injuries, but he’s been a solid player for his whole career. This season, he’s averaging 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 0.5 steals per game.
Brogdon would be a great mentor to Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain. He would bring needed veteran leadership to the team, and could be that spark that the Sixers need to contend.
