Chargers have been the one team that has hotly pursued D.K. Metcalf

The Los Angeles Chargers seem ready to add one of the top wide receivers in the league to their offensive arsenal this offseason and within the last couple of days, two major targets have become a bigger image on their radar.

Davante Adams was released by the New York Jets on Tuesday and the Chargers have been named by many as one of his top potential landing spots. The Chargers will keep tabs on him but on Wednesday, it was reported that D.K. Metcalf has requested to be traded by the Seattle Seahawks.

He could be a likely option to wind up in L.A. and as Jordan Schultz reported, that is something the team has been looking into for some time now.

Schultz used the word “rebuffed” when talking about how Seattle has pushed back on the Chargers’ advances, meaning the team has likely made at least one offer for the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. The Seahawks may have felt the offer wasn’t enough or they may have just felt like they weren’t going to trade Metcalf.

That could have changed with the recent news that Metcalf wants out and the Chargers could be the team that lands him. The Seahawks are sure to be fielding plenty of calls as Metcalf has been one of the league’s best receivers since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2019. He has 438 receptions for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns in his career.

The Chargers are in need of another top-tier option in the passing game and if the team can find one of those, second-year wide receiver Ladd McConkey will be able to take some of the attention away from him and Justin Hebert could have a field day throwing the ball next season.

As discussed before, this would be a terrific trade for the Chargers if they can pull it off. Metcalf would like to join a contender, and the Chargers are on their way to becoming one.
