What time does the NASCAR race start today? TV schedule, channel for 2025 COTA race in Austin

The NASCAR Cup Series is hitting the road for its third race of the season, trading the chaos of superspeedway pack racing for the technical challenge of Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

For the first time, the NASCAR Cup Series will race on a shortened Circuit of the Americas layout Sunday. The 20-turn, 2.4-mile “National” circuit shaves nearly a mile off the original track, speeding up lap times by about a minute. To compensate, the race now spans 95 laps, up from last year’s 68-lap event on the Formula One configuration.

This shift in terrain demands a completely different strategy from the 37 drivers set to take on COTA’s demanding layout. While tracks like Daytona, Talladega, and Atlanta favor high-speed drafting and aggressive blocking, road courses require pinpoint accuracy. A miscalculated move near a chicane could send a driver spinning in a cloud of tire smoke.

Fortunately, the field is stacked with drivers well-versed in navigating the 18-turn course. Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, William Byron, and Tyler Reddick have all tasted victory at this venue and are expected to be serious contenders once again.

Adding to the mix is Shane van Gisbergen, the Trackhouse Racing recruit and three-time Supercars champion, who has quickly established himself as one of NASCAR’s premier road course specialists.
