Looking to prove he deserves to hang with the best at 140, Matias is excited to compete in the latest chapter of Puerto Rico vs. Mexico.
“I do not feel too much pressure from outside of the ring,” Matias said. “I put the pressure on myself because I understand that my opponent is strong and the rivalry between our countries has always been strong.

“This is a great opportunity for me to fight for a title shot, and I will be looking for a win via knockout. We are both very powerful fighters, and I know for a fact that this fight will end in a knockout. I promised myself the day I lost the title that I would regain it.”
Valenzuela (30-3-1) is on a five-fight win streak after Montana Love ended his 23-fight unbeaten streak. The Guadalajara-born fighter has 17 wins via knockout. Ranked fourth in the IBF’s rankings, he’s ready to make an impact in the division at the expense of Matias.
“I worked many years for this opportunity,” Valenzuela said. “The purse is not that important to me right now. The money will come. The most important thing right now is the opportunity to win, and fight for the title. Obviously, after I do that, I can work on the money. But right now, the mission is to get the title.”
