Timberwolves predicted to acquire $18.7 million guard to support Anthony Edwards in the backcourt

The Minnesota Timberwolves are having a solid year. After a rocky period earlier in the season, Minnesota is back on track and is fighting for a playoff spot. They are No. 7 in the Western Conference, but if they continue to play at a high level, they could pass a team like the No. 6 Los Angeles Clippers.

This season could be crucial to their future. Anthony Edwards wants to win, and if the young superstar feels Minnesota is not in a position to do so, he could force a trade elsewhere. The upcoming offseason is a chance for the Timberwolves to make some moves and prove they can win. Minnesota has already been tied to Kevin Durant, but there are smaller moves they can make to put themselves in a better position.

Bleacher Report listed three offseason trade targets for every team in the league. While Durant was Minnesota’s top target, Toronto Raptors guard Ochai Agbaji was one of the others.

Agbaji is a young wing having the best season of his career, averaging 10.1 points and 3.7 rebounds. His shooting percentage has improved, as he is shooting 50.4% from the field, and is also shooting 39.6% from 3-point range after struggling in that area last season.

The 2022 lottery pick could come off Minnesota’s bench and provide offense. If the Timberwolves lose Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Toronto’s young guard can fill that void. A strong bench is crucial to any team, and adding the young guard ensures that Minnesota has depth.

It also does not hurt that Agbaji is no stranger to winning. He won an NCAA championship back in 2022 with Kansas and was named Most Outstanding Player. He is a competitor and could bring that energy to Minnesota as they look to win it all.
