The Philadelphia 76ers signing Paul George was one of the biggest free agent moves over the offseason, and it turned out it was one of the worst. Now, Fansided’s Christopher Kline has George as one of his top Sixers that needs to be moved elsewhere by next season. Kline did preface with the fact George has been dealt with a bad hand this season.
“Paul George, to his credit, has been to hell and back on the injury front this season. He has dealt with knee problems and now a tendon issue in his left hand, which has required medical injections to alleviate pain,” Kline wrote. “For George to put together the kind of season he’s having, on a team now 16 games below .500, and still want to push through pain and compete is admirable.”
Kline then continued, laying out what the Sixers need to do. “That said, the Sixers need to shut him down, embrace the tank (although George isn’t exactly working against the tank right now), and trade him in the offseason,” Kline stated. “That may be impossible, but if just one team talks themselves into squeezing more production out of a healthier, well-rested Paul George, that’s all Daryl Morey needs. The Hawks and Warriors both called about PG at the trade deadline. It’s not completely out of the question for Philadelphia to dump his contract to a desperate contender.”
This season, George is only averaging 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals. Last season, he was averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
George just isn’t living up to his $211.6 million dollar contract. And for a team not seeing the success they envisioned, trading for picks to rebuild their team around their young superstar duo is the right move.
