The Philadelphia 76ers have been trusting The Process since 2017, and since then, it hasn’t given them any results except for making it to the Eastern Conference semifinals once in a while. Joel Embiid has been way too inconsistent, and injury-prone. Fansided’s Nicholas Chiorito predicted that one option the Sixers will look at is trading for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant.
“One constant throughout Kevin Durant’s career is that he can become displeased in his current situation quickly. With the Phoenix Suns outside of the play-in, if they miss the playoffs all together, Durant will most likely be on the move,” Chiorito wrote. “It will be almost impossible for a team to properly give the compensation that is required to trade for Kevin Durant, but after the Luka Doncic trade, anything is possible. Embiid’s injury concerns aren’t going anywhere, so giving up an injury riddled 31-year-old for a 36-year-old, who is still playing like a top player, will be worth it.”
Even though Durant is five years older than Embiid, he has played in significantly more games than Embiid. In their past nine seasons where they weren’t out for the season, Embiid has only played in 452 games, while Durant has played in 535.
Durant would add consistency to the Sixers, as well as a scoring partner to Philly’s other star, Tyrese Maxey. Maxey plays better with Embiid on the court, so having a superstar who could actually be on the court most of the time would be great for Maxey.
Should the Sixers consider this trade? Honestly, yes. Sure, they’ve committed almost a decade to Embiid, but that’s also the point. In almost a decade, the furthest they’ve made it in the playoffs was the second round. Durant would bring championship experience, and share that experience with the young stars of Philadelphia.
