49ers writer has wild trade proposal that swaps Deebo Samuel for Myles Garrett

After their disastrous 2024 season, the San Francisco 49ers should be looking to make power moves this spring.

A 6-11 season simply isn’t acceptable for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, no matter how many injuries they suffered along the way. In 2025, they hope their full roster performs up to expectation, but they still may need to bring in more star talent.

With the pass rush languishing outside of superstar Nick Bosa, the 49ers have been discussed as a potential trade destination for Cleveland Browns superstar edge-rusher Myles Garrett. What might it take for San Francisco to deal for the six-time Pro Bowler?

On Tuesday, FanSided’s Nick San Miguel proposed a hypothetical deal that would send Garrett to San Francisco in exchange for the 49ers’ 2025 first-round and second-round picks, plus wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who is seeking trades himself entering the final year of his contract.

“Even if Samuel has declined a bit, he still has talent as a wide receiver and can be a solid pass catcher for a team. It’s doubtful the Browns would be able to get a substantially better player than Samuel with a second-round pick, so they may decide that is the best offer on the table,” San Miguel wrote.

“Of course, they would likely have to take on some of Samuel’s contract, so that could be an impediment to getting a deal done.”

Part of what makes trade discussions so enticing to study from the outside is that including Samuel in a deal like this could be seen as either a deal sweetener or an impediment depending on how the Browns are trying to build their team.

The best version of Samuel could make Cleveland’s offense a lot better in the short term. But he’s only under contract for one more year, and as San Miguel hints, $31 million is a lot to take on for a player who might be in decline.

Regardless, the proposal San Miguel outlines has the important pieces attached–the two picks. The 49ers could just as easily be the team that offers the Browns the right picks as anyone else could–it will just be intriguing to see if any other big names are involved.
