Two of the brightest young women’s soccer squads will face off in Houston. The USWNT faces Colombia in their first games of the 2025 SheBelieves Cup.
These two squads are no strangers. In last year’s Gold Cup knockouts, the Americans earned a 3-0 victory over an energetic, gritty Colombian squad. Lindsey Horan, Jenna Nighswonger and Jaedyn Shaw all scored in the first half for the game’s only goals.
A shutout likely won’t happen again this time. Linda Caicedo, the 19-year old star, will likely lead the way for the first-time participants at the SheBelieves Cup. She’ll likely be joined by Mayra Ramirez and Leicy Santos, the squad’s biggest leaders on the pitch, as the 21st-ranked team in the world tries to down the latest Olympic champions.
While the U.S. will likely call up a handful of first-timers after a historic January camp, the Americans will also be turning to a new goalkeeper after Alyssa Naeher’s retirement. Plenty of young stars will earn their first call-up, and maybe even cap, when they face Colombia in Houston.
