The Sacramento Kings are bereft of point guards and could solve that void by claiming a talented one off of waivers this winter.
After the Kings dealt former All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs and brought in Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls, a paradigm shift occurred in their backcourt. Sacramento resorted to promoting dynamic two-guard Malik Monk into their primary ball-handling slot. As talented a scorer and shot-creator as Monk is, the franchise does not have another natural point guard that can fill that role behind him.
In can come former Atlanta Hawks one-guard Bones Hyland. Reports revealed that the Hawks cut ties with Hyland on Saturday:
“The Atlanta Hawks requested waivers on Bones Hyland on Saturday, two days after the guard was obtained from the LA Clippers,” the Associated Press reported (via ESPN).
“The Clippers acquired guard Bogdan Bogdanovic and three second-round draft picks from the Hawks for guard Terance Mann and Hyland in a trade announced late Thursday.”
The Delaware native averages 7.2 points and knocks down 1.6 three-pointers per game on 38.7% shooting from distance. He does so in a paltry 11.1 minutes of playing time per contest. Hyland also limits his turnovers with 1.3 giveaways per game for his career.
Though he’s more of a score-first point guard, the 24-year-old is also capable of finding his teammates. Thus, Sacramento could bank on Hyland reverting back to the 3.1 APG he boasted across 19.4 minutes of action back in the 2022-23 campaign in hopes that he can provide their second unit with all-around productivity.
