Arsenal legend makes bold prediction for Liverpool in the Premier League title race

Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes could be all but sealed with a win over Everton on Wednesday night.

That’s the view of Arsenal legend Paul Merson, who believes the Reds will be impossible to catch if they extend their lead at the top.

The Reds suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Sunday. Manager Arne Slot made several changes to his squad, but the Championship side pulled off a shocking upset.

With their cup run over, Liverpool’s focus is now fully on the league.

What Paul Merson said on Premier League title race?

Liverpool’s upcoming match against Everton is a rescheduled fixture that was postponed last year. Currently, the Reds sit six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

A win at Goodison Park would push that lead to nine points, a margin that Merson believes would be too big to overcome.

Speaking to Metro Sport, Merson said, “If Liverpool win at Everton, that’ll be nine points clear with 15-odd games left. They’d have to lose four of them, which I think would be impossible. To me, it comes down to Wednesday.”

Liverpool are aiming for their 20th English top-flight title, which would equal Manchester United’s record. For Slot, winning the league in his first season would be a remarkable achievement after taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are desperate to avoid finishing second for the third straight season. But with Liverpool in top form, catching them might be out of reach.

The Reds are still chasing multiple trophies. They recently secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final and remain in contention in the Champions League.

Their packed schedule will test their depth, but a win against Everton could make the league title all but certain.

Merson’s message is clear: Liverpool have a golden chance to take control. If they deliver at Goodison Park, the Premier League race could be over sooner than expected.
