One of the most controversial trades in NBA history has taken yet another turn, with Anthony Davis set to miss significant time with injury.
The Dallas Mavericks shocked the world in early February when they traded franchise star Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Davis, with their reasoning being that they viewed Davis as a more reliable, win-now player.
But that logic has been immediately put to the test, with their new star suffering an adductor injury in his Mavericks debut that will see him face an extended stay on the sideline.
What is Anthony Davis’ injury?
Anthony Davis is expected to miss an indefinite period of time, after suffering a left adductor strain, possibly linked to a previously suffered abdominal issue.
How long is Anthony Davis out?
While the severity of Davis’ injury is still yet to be determined, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that he will likely miss at least multiple weeks, if not over a month.
The 31-year-old down-played his injury concerns after exiting his Mavericks debut against the Houston Rockets, but he will now miss more time to injury, an unfortunate trend of his career to this point.
“Just the leg got tight, like a little spasm,” Davis said Saturday.
“Just came back and tried to get it loose and everything. Obviously, dealing with the ab strain still, so just tried to get it loose. It wouldn’t really loosen up and let go, but it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”
Davis joined the Mavericks via trade ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, after Dallas made the shocking decision to move off of presumed-franchise cornerstone Dončić.
Dallas reportedly believed the combination of Davis and Kyrie Irving gave the team a more realistic path to a title this season, but that theory could now be in doubt with Davis sidelined indefinitely.
