Lakers may land accomplished $100 million Warriors forward after Luka Doncic trade

The Los Angeles Lakers could make headlines again after trading for Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic on Sunday.

Landing an accomplished Golden Warriors forward in a follow-up blockbuster trade would raise eyebrows for the second time this week.

“(Draymond) Green is a fan of Doncic,” Blue Man Hoop’s Tyler Watts wrote Sunday.

“The Mavericks were favorites to land the four-time All-Star when there were rumors of him leaving Golden State. That was in part because of Luka. Green has often come to his defense and rightfully has interest in teaming up with him at some point.”

“The odds only increase when factoring in Green’s relationship with LeBron (James). Draymond wants to be a Warrior for life, but the Lakers should be considered favorites to land him if it ever becomes time to move on.”

“LA needs a defensive stopper with Luka as the new face of their franchise. Green is still one of the best on that end of the floor, and his improved shooting only makes him more lethal.”

Despite the Warriors’ concerning start to the 2024-25 campaign, Green is still going strong in the Bay in Year 13.

As a 6-foot-6 forward capable of initiating Golden State’s offense after missed baskets, occasionally drilling catch-and-shoot perimeter jumpers, and setting the tone for the Warriors defensively, Green successfully plays his role on the struggling Stephen Curry-led Western Conference squad.

Green averages 8.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 41.5% field goal shooting and 36.2% three-point shooting this season.

While Green is out of his prime, he would provide the Lakers with a veteran presence who isn’t a slouch on either end.

The Michigan State product may not be on the Lakers’ radar now, but his status with the franchise could change as the week progresses.
