The San Francisco Giants have made a few key moves this offseason. Their biggest move was the signing of Willy Adames, but they also signed Justin Verlander to a one-year, $15 million deal.
However, they would be wise to look for other ways to upgrade their roster. They could use another pitcher and another bat to boost their lineup.
When projecting the team’s Opening Day lineup for 2025, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report had Anthony Rizzo in the mix.
“Injures have limited Anthony Rizzo to 191 games over the past two seasons, and he will almost certainly have to take a significant pay cut from the $17 million he earned a year ago, but he still represents an intriguing buy-low target at the right price. The three-time All-Star is a respected clubhouse voice, standout defender at first base and experienced postseason performer,” Reuter wrote.
Rizzo couldn’t stay healthy in 2024 with the New York Yankees, and he was ultimately replaced by Paul Goldschmidt.
The 35-year-old hit just .228 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and a .637 OPS. However, if he can get healthy again, he could potentially return to form and give the Giants a major offensive boost if they are to sign him.
Rizzo is a three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove winner, a former Silver Slugger and a Platinum Glove winner. He has spent parts of the past four seasons with the Bronx Bombers.
Maybe a change of scenery could benefit him as he looks to get his career back on track. The Giants hope to contend in 2025, and his presence could give them a major boost.
