The NBA’s biggest controversy this season is the beef between the Miami Heat, and their superstar Jimmy Butler, who has gotten himself suspended by the team multiple times, and is currently on an indefinite suspension. Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett believes due to Butler’s words and actions, the NBA might start having non-guaranteed contracts.
“This is how non guaranteed are going to come into our league for sh*t like this…I’m not gonna come in here and make a mockery and be a distraction to the other guys in here because that’s what you’re doing…..This is a message. Not only to the league but a message between upstairs and the power of players.”
Butler has wanted out of Miami for quite a bit of the season now, due to the fact he wants to win now and feels the Heat aren’t helping him do that. At first, the Heat had no plans to trade him. Since they didn’t, Butler started to speak and act out. He would insult the organization, miss team flights and practices.
The last thing that happened before he was suspended for his third time this month was he walked out of a shootaround before a game vs. the Orlando Magic. Now, Butler is suspended indefinitely while the team figures out what to do with him.
Garnett is probably right with what he said. Butler’s actions will lead to non-guaranteed contracts, as if a team with a superstar cannot get along, they’ll just cut him, and not lose any money. This will hurt players of the future, as if a team sees a player even just regressing, they’ll cut him, and the player will lose millions.
