The NBA trade deadline is less than a week away — are the New York Knicks going to make any moves?
The Knicks are all set when it comes to their starting five, but they could definitely benefit from some depth along the front line.
That’s why New York has been linked to a guy like Jonas Valančiūnas.
It’s also why the Knicks have reportedly called about Philadelphia 76ers big man Guerschon Yabusele, per a new report from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
“Several teams have expressed interest in trading for Yabusele, including the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and others, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote on Thursday.
“After six years away from the NBA and an impactful Olympics with France this past summer, Yabusele has returned to the league and proven he’s here to stay. The French forward has averaged 10.4 points on 50.2 percent shooting from the field and 39.3 percent from beyond the arc with 5.5 rebounds in 26.2 minutes. Yabusele will enter unrestricted free agency and is expected to draw interest from several teams, given his play this season.”
Yabusele was selected at No. 16 overall in the 2016 NBA draft. After a few years with the Celtics, Yabusele bounced around in pro leagues in France and China while playing really good basketball, gaining the attention of Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, who signed Yabusele in 2021.
Yabusele continued to excel with Madrid, and now he’s made it all the way back to the NBA as a winning, rotational player for Philly.
The 76ers would benefit from holding onto Yabusele and paying him this summer. But if Sixers GM Daryl Morey is looking to keep cap space as clear as possible in anticipation of another big move, he’d likely trade Yabusele now rather than lose him for nothing in a few months.
Should the Knicks go all-in on Yabusele?
