$9 million starting quarterback named potential trade option for Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a ton of work to do this offseason, as general manager Omar Khan will look to bolster a roster that lost four straight games at the end of the 2024 regular season and was completely embarrassed by the Baltimore Ravens in the wild card.

The biggest offseason storyline in Pittsburgh will be the future of the quarterback position. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will be unrestricted free agents this offseason, and neither proved to be franchise signal callers in 2024.

Wilson started most of the season, and though he got off to a decent start, the veteran unraveled towards the end of the year and clearly isn’t a long-term answer at the quarterback.

Fields showed some promise in his six starts in 2024, while Wilson dealt with a calf injury. The former Ohio State Buckeye played clean and efficient football and displayed why he deserves a second chance as a starter.

Pittsburgh will likely be in the quarterback market this offseason, no matter what transpires with Wilson and Fields. There will be a plethora of signal callers on the market, but Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders lists Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis as a potential trade target for the Steelers.

“Will Levis was in a completely moribund offense in Tennessee, and is a true reclamation project,” Saunders wrote. “He still has a big arm and can move well, and a new head coach for the Titans could look to move on and go a new direction at quarterback. He probably would not break the bank in a trade.”

Levis had an atrocious 2024 campaign with the Titans, as the 25-year-old struggled with turnovers and posted a 2-10 record with just 13 touchdown passes in 12 starts.

The former Kentucky Wildcat was benched for Mason Rudolph during Tennessee’s Week 15 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, and though Levis did get some playing time during the team’s season finale versus the Houston Texans, his future with the Titans is murky.

Trading a late Day 3 for Levis to serve as backup or developmental project would be a savvy move from Pittsburgh, but the 2023 second-round pick was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in football this season and would be a significant downgrade over Wilson and Fields.

Levis has some potential and could revive his career in a few years, but he’s not a starting-level quarterback right now. The Steelers shouldn’t trade for the Titans’ signal caller unless he is the backup behind an experienced starter.
