Eagles vs. Rams weather updates: Freezing cold, snow in Philadelphia forecast for NFL playoff game

As is the case every January, cold weather will play a factor in the remainder of the 2025 NFL playoffs. When the Rams meet the Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday though, the climate could be one of the defining aspects of the matchup.

While the Eagles may be more used to playing in cold weather, often hosting winter matchups in the dome-less Lincoln Financial Field, the Rams could be in for an adjustment as road underdogs.

Los Angeles rarely plays in cold weather — winter in California still typically reaches 60-to-70 degrees, and SoFi Stadium has a roof. However, Matthew Stafford, a former Detroit Lion, does have some experience facing cold temperatures. Sean McVay’s squad will be looking to come out victorious in a divisional playoff matchup that could even see some snow.

Here are the latest weather updates for Eagles vs. Rams and the forecast for kickoff.

The expectation is that this playoff matchup will be one of the coldest games the Eagles have hosted in recent years. Sunday’s high temperature in Philadelphia is forecasted to be 35 degrees, so there’s a good chance the game has freezing weather at its 3 p.m. ET kickoff.

During a postseason edition of ESPN’s “NFL Countdown,” Sal Paolantonio reported that two to four inches of accumulation is expected by 5 p.m. ET.

As of Sunday morning, there is a 66 percent chance of snow at 3 p.m. ET and a 100 percent chance by 5 p.m. ET. Based on this timing, the heaviest snowfall will come during the second half of Sunday’s game.

Skies were clear at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday morning, but that is expected to change by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the detailed Sunday forecast for Philadelphia is as follows:

“Today: Snow, possibly mixed with rain, becoming all snow after 4 p.m. ET. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 36 degrees. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow, mainly before 9 p.m. The snow could be heavy at times. Areas of blowing snow. Low around 18. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.”

Especially as the game moves past sunset and into its later stages, there’s a good chance that the Eagles and Rams are playing some playoff football in the snow. On Thursday, Philadelphia practiced in some flurries:
