It’s unclear whether the Philadelphia 76ers will try to keep their playoff hopes alive or tank for the remainder of the year after all of their bad luck.
The Sixers are down but not out. It wouldn’t be surprising if Philadelphia tries to make some trades to aid their playoff hopes, but Joel Embiid’s injury should make them think about their next move.
If they decide to push for the playoffs, ClutchPoints proposed a trade that would send Washington Wizards swingman Corey Kispert to the Sixers. The Wizards are nowhere near playoff contention, so trading Kispert would make sense. The proposed trade is as follows:
Sixers receive: Kispert, Patrick Baldwin Jr.
Wizards receive: Kelly Oubre Jr., Andre Drummond, 2026 first-round pick (least favorable of Thunder, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets), 2030 Sixers first-round pick
Kispert is a wing who can space the floor, which the Sixers lack on the roster. He’s also inexpensive, so it makes sense that the Sixers would offer two first-round picks in this trade. He’s also a realistic target because the Wizards don’t have much going for them.
Record-wise, the Wizards are the worst team in the NBA, at 6-33, so it would make sense that they could trade Kispert. There’s a problem, though.
This trade can’t happen until next year
Kispert agreed to an extension with the Wizards last offseason. Hence, the Wizards can’t trade him for a year.
So, a deal like this can’t happen during the 2025 season. However, this is a trade the Sixers should consider when the offseason rolls around.
It might be better that way for the Sixers if they decide it’s not worth making a playoff push after how they’ve done this season. If Philadelphia decides to lock and load for next season, Kispert would be a good target when he becomes available.
