Steelers insider says Pittsburgh has ‘no interest’ in 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback

With the future of quarterback Russell Wilson up in the air, there has been plenty of speculation about what direction the Pittsburgh Steelers could go in at the position in 2025.

One quarterback who has been linked to the Steelers via speculation is New York Jets signal-caller Aaron Rodgers, who could be on his way out in the Big Apple after a disappointing 2024 campaign.

While it remains to be seen if Rodgers would have interest in playing for the Steelers, it would appear Pittsburgh isn’t interested in going that route at all, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“I can tell you it won’t be Aaron Rodgers,” Dulac said during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “(The Steelers) have no interest in doing that.”

The Steelers’ stance is understandable given the fact that Rodgers wasn’t great in 2024 and is 41 years old. On top of that, there’s a certain level of drama the 10-time Pro Bowler can bring with him, and he may only offer a one-year solution.

Nobody would consider Wilson a lock to return to Pittsburgh, but a recent report from an NFL insider suggests that he still has the support of head coach Mike Tomlin, so it would appear Wilson has a better chance than not to be back.

“Russell Wilson’s best path back to the Steelers’ roster in 2025 is through Mike Tomlin, who was certainly his biggest supporter from the time that he realized we can get this guy for a veteran minimum deal, bring him on the roster, and potentially compete and have a starting quarterback for that number while the Broncos pick up the tab,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said. “He still has a lot of support from Tomlin; Wilson does, from what I understand. Even recently, despite the fact that he didn’t play as well as he did earlier in the season.”

One way or the other, the Steelers are going to have a veteran quarterback under center in 2025. They will likely explore their options once they know what those options are, but right now we would predict Wilson returning for another season.
