76ers urged to make pivotal decision before NBA trade deadline passes

The Philadelphia 76ers lost again, this time to the Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s not entirely their fault, as practically their entire rotation missed the matchup due to injuries.

However, that doesn’t make it any less painful to see that at 15-23, the Sixers are still on the outside looking in for the Play-In Tournament as the No. 11 seed.

The NBA trade deadline is less than a month away, and the Sixers must ponder hard if they need to make a drastic change with how they’ve done this season.

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus urged the Sixers to “hold” at the deadline. In other words, he believes they should keep their main core intact, though he added that “others warn that executive Daryl Morey should never be considered ‘conservative.’ He’ll make a deal if there’s one to finagle.”

The 76ers were somewhat active during last year’s deadline when they traded away Patrick Beverley, Marcus Morris Sr., Danuel House, and Jaden Springer while acquiring Buddy Hield.

Those trades didn’t amount to much, and it sounded like Hield didn’t enjoy his time in Philadelphia much. The Sixers at least tried something before the deadline passed.

The Sixers are built to make a minor trade or two

The Sixers likely won’t alter their roster a lot, but if they try their hand before the deadline, it wouldn’t be too surprising if they make about as many changes as they did last season. It would not change the lineup majorly, but it at least shakes up the group around their Big Three.

KJ Martin’s contract is very tradeable because the second year is non-guaranteed. The Sixers also have other easily moveable players to use in trades for potential upgrades.

Morey definitely has a reputation for sneaking in a good deal when the opportunity presents itself. However, no one would blame him if he just can’t find the right trade before the deadline passes.
