Yankees avoid arbitration with former All-Star on $5.9 million deal

The New York Yankees took care of a bit of housekeeping before the team returns for spring training next month.

Ahead of the deadline Thursday to exchange arbitration figures, the Yankees and one-time All-Star Jazz Chisholm agreed to a one-year deal to avoid arbitration.

The one-year contract is reportedly worth $5.85 million for the 2025 season, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.

Though it’s not a massive deal, but the contract comes in a bit cheaper than what MLB Trade Rumors had projected, which was $6.9 million.

Chisholm will be a key figure for the Yankees during the 2025 season. He took on the everyday third base role after he was acquired just before the trade deadline last summer.

The 26-year-old appeared in 46 games for the Yankees, slashing .273/.325/.500 with 11 home runs, 23 RBI and 18 stolen bases. He also logged a 130 OPS+ (30 percent better than league average), which was the second-highest of his career.

Chisholm played third base for the Yankees, and there’s a good chance he stays there for 2025. He could, however, move back to second base if the Yankees find a better option for the hot corner.

Either way, the Yankees avoided the grueling process of arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal with Chisholm, which is a positive things for all parties involved.
