Liverpool have had the irresistible momentum of their season checked over the past week.
Following an eventful 2-2 draw against rivals Manchester United at Anfield, Arne Slot’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal.
The other domestic cup is on the agenda this weekend, with League Two strugglers Accrington Stanley in an FA Cup third-round clash long predestined by an old UK television advert.

There’s plenty of scope for Slot to shuffle his pack with an eye on next Tuesday’s important Premier League trip to face high-flying Nottingham Forest.
Wataru Endo could start at centre-back after Jarell Quansah was substituted with a stomach complaint during the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in midweek. Joe Gomez is also out with a hamstring injury and Virgil van Dijk is due a rest, meaning Ibrahima Konate will probably get the chance to build some more match fitness following his own recent lay-off.
Youngsters Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni are likely to feature in midfield, while Federico Chiesa could make just his second Liverpool start.
Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Kelleher (GK) — Bradley, Konate, Endo, Robertson — Elliott, Morton, Nyoni — Chiesa, Nunez, Gakpo
Injured: Gomez (hamstring), Quansah (stomach), Szoboszlai (illness, doubt)
Suspended: None

Accrington collected a much-needed 2-0 win over Colchester United at the weekend to move five points clear of the League Two relegation zone. Shaun Whalley, who scored both their goals, conceded the looming Liverpool tie had been something of a distraction for his team-mates.
“I think I am right in saying that a lot of us were thinking too far ahead and looking at the Liverpool game,” Whalley told the Lancashire Telegraph. “But [in] the last couple of games, everyone has been outstanding.”
On-loan Manchester United defender Sonny Aljofree was an injury absentee at the weekend along with central midfielder Liam Coyle and both will be assessed. New signing Charlie Brown is likely to be among the substitutes once more.
Another ex-United player, Donald Love, will start at right-back.
Accrington Stanley predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Crellin (GK) — Love, Rawson, Awe, B. Woods — Martin, Khumbeni — J. Woods, Hunter, Whalley — Walton
Injured: Aljofree, Coyle
