As Week 17 begins, the Seahawks are still fighting for an NFC playoff spot.
Coming into a “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Bears, Seattle sits at 8-7, trailing the Rams in the NFC West but eliminated from the conference’s wild-card picture. Each game is now make-or-break for the Seahawks’ postseason chances, with a win over Chicago on Thursday being an essential first step toward getting back in the division race.
The Seahawks have had a back-and-forth 2024 season that’s been full of streaks. They began the year on a three-game win streak, then followed it with a three-game losing streak. More recently, Seattle has had two separate instances of consecutive losses, but sandwiched a four-game winning streak in between.
Behind quarterback Geno Smith (3,937 yards, 17 touchdowns, 15 interceptions) the Seahawks’ last-minute postseason hopes rely on a Week 17 win over Chicago. A Rams loss to Arizona on Saturday would then go a long way as well, with Seattle and Los Angeles potentially due for a Week 18 matchup to decide the division.
MORE NFL WEEK 17:
The Bears, though, will be looking to play spoiler on “Thursday Night Football.” The 2024 season hasn’t treated Chicago the way it had hoped, as the team enters this matchup on a nine-game losing streak after a 4-2 start to the year. No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams (3,271 yards, 19 touchdowns, five interceptions) has been good, but not quite elite as a rookie, while the Bears’ defense hasn’t helped by allowing 359.4 total yards per game.
With Chicago now just looking for glimpses of hope to build off of in 2025, Williams and his squad will be looking to snap their losing streak in Week 17. The Bears are likely on their way to a top-10 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, but with enough talented pieces to win games now, they could play a role in keeping Seattle out of the postseason.
