The New York Yankees may have addressed one of their biggest question marks in the infield, but there remains a pretty big hole at the hot corner.
How the Yankees will go about addressing the third base position remains to be seen. One option appeared to be acquiring St. Louis Cardinals star Nolan Arenado in a trade, but there may be more smoke than fire when it comes to that scenario.
Though the Yankees were reportedly interested in a trade for the eight-time All-Star, Jack Curry of YES Network refuted that report on Yankees Hot Stove.
While offseason rumblings and reports are often fluid, it will be interesting to see what the Yankees ultimately decide to do at the hot corner.
Currently, the Yankees have Jazz Chisholm holding down the position, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if they wanted to move him back to second base, which is his more natural position.
With that said, the Yankees don’t have to move Chisholm off of third base. They can keep him there in hopes he continues to develop his defensive skills while adding another player at second base.
There are plenty of second-base options to choose from as well. Ha-seong Kim appears to be the best option in free agency if the Yankees don’t want to reunite with Gleyber Torres, which doesn’t appear to be in the cards as of this writing.
They also could turn to the trade market for a player like Brandon Lowe of the Tampa Bay Rays. Lowe would be an ideal fit at the top of the lineup without breaking the bank.
Regardless, the rumors around Arenado and the Yankees bear monitoring following the holidays as spring training is right around the corner.
