The New York Giants have just two games remaining until this disaster season comes to an end, but rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. has been a rare bright spot.
The fifth-round pick took over the starting role from veteran Devin Singletary in October, and he hasn’t looked back.
Entering the Week 17 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, Tracy has taken 158 carries for 721 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns while adding 34 receptions for 263 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
However, the rookie is dealing with an ankle injury going into the penultimate matchup of the regular season.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. injury update
Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters Monday that Tracy aggravated the ankle injury he played through last week.
Ahead of practice on Tuesday, Daboll told reporters that Tracy is among the group of players that is not expected to practice to begin the week.
Because the Giants are taking Wednesday off for Christmas, we may not get a true update on Tracy’s status until the team returns for practices on Thursday and Friday.
Tracy has a chance to make some NFL history if he’s not kept on the sideline with the injury. Malik Nabers (971 total yards) and Tracy (984 total yards) are within striking distance of becoming the first pair of rookie teammates to each go over 1,000 yards of offense since Reggie Bush and Marques Colston in 2006.
The practice reports later in the week will give us a better idea of his status, but this is something to monitor.
