Packers’ PA announcer asks fans to stop chanting ‘Bears still suck’ during blowout win vs. Saints

Even when the Bears aren’t playing, they still can find a way to lose.

Chicago has been more snakebitten than most over the past few decades. Although much of that stems from the franchise’s own miscues — faulty draft picks, shoddy head coach hirings, and plain ol’ misfortune — some of its scars come from the fact that its biggest rival is so successful. While the Bears have toiled, the Packers have succeeded. They appear to have collected their third franchise quarterback in as many generations and are set to make another foray into the postseason.

It’s one thing being aware of this dichotomy. It’s another to have it plastered across a television screen during a national broadcast. On Monday night, Chicago fans were presented with the latter.

With that, here’s what you need to know about the Green Bay fans’ latest melody, offered up during the Pack’s 34-0 beatdown of the Saints on “Monday Night Football.”

Packers fans’ ‘Bears still suck’ chant, explained

With the Packers cruising to their 11th win of the season, those who pooled into the Lambeau Field concourses felt compelled to, in the words of Sly and the Family Stone, sing a simple song.

That song revolved around the Bears’ futility.

“The Bears still suck,” roared the Lambeau Field faithful while Green Bay drove down the field, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

If the word of one of the NFL’s premier insiders isn’t enough for you, there is video:

Not everyone was happy. The stadium’s PA announcer swiftly scolded the green-and-yellow-clad onlookers for their remarks. His issue didn’t appear to be with the comments themselves. Rather, he wanted the crowd to quiet down to make it easier for the Packers offense to operate.

NFL DRAFT NEWS:

Packers’ fans weren’t done, though. They broke out the chant again during ‘Sportscenter’ immediately after the game.

Green Bay hosts the Bears in both side’s regular-season finale on Jan. 5, so consider Monday’s performances a rehearsal for the real thing in Week 18.
