Where is Beyonce from? Hometown and more to know about music star’s NFL fandom

The NFL’s expedition into the world of mistletoe and eggnog has proven an exciting venture to legions of casual and hardcore football fans alike.

In 2024, the league is taking a leap, adding one of music’s biggest acts to the Christmas Day festivities. It’s not her first rodeo with the NFL, either.

Beyonce will be leading the line at halftime when the Texans host the Ravens on Christmas. While Houston and Baltimore jostle as Yuletide rings, Beyonce will be hoping to put forth another impressive showcase in front of a rather familiar fanbase.

Why does Beyonce’s performance in Houston of all places carry such weight? The Sporting News gives you the skinny on Beyonce’s Houston roots, a city that has played a pivotal role in shaping her musical career thus far.

Where is Beyonce from?

Beyonce hails from Houston, having grown up in the booming metropolis for the first 21 years of her life.

Houston lays claims to a treasure trove of musical artists, including DJ Screw, Megan the Stallion, Robert Glasper, UGK and Beyonce’s sister, Solange. Beyonce’s success can be seen as a continuation of the city’s rich musical history.

Beyonce’s career in the spotlight began in earnest in 1997 when her girl group, Destiny’s Child, was signed to Columbia Records. The group largely consisted of Houston-based talent, including Kelly Rowland (who lived with Beyonce due to family issues), LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.

The group collected two Grammys, 14 Grammy nominations and sold more than 60 million records. It also served as a platform by which Beyonce rose to individual prominence.

Is Beyonce a Texans fan?

Beyonce is certainly a Houston native. Whether she’s a diehard Texans fan is a different matter.

The 43-year-old pop megastar is a frequent purveyor of sporting matches the world over. Yet, outside of individual performers like Serena Williams and LeBron James — as well as the Nets franchise her husband, Jay-Z, used to hold a stake in — it’s hard to know just how deep her fandom is.

Beyonce has been pictured in Longhorns merchandise, so it seems she’s well aware of the sport’s influence on the region. It seems fair to assume that she has some affinity for the Texans — it is the hometown team, after all. Nevertheless, the nature of her support for the franchise remains a bit murky at the moment.
