Timberwolves may already ditch Julius Randle in trade for Clippers’ $90 million star

Minnesota Timberwolves fans are finding themselves with the same frustrations that New York Knicks fans did with Julius Randle.

His inconsistencies. One game Randle will appear as the perfect No. 2 option to superstar Anthony Edwards before looking like an inefficient role player the next.

If this irritation transfers into the Wolves’ locker room, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities for Randle to see a change of scenery at the trade deadline. Fadeaway World proposed a major trade sending the three-time All-Star to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a Most Improved Player favorite.

Clippers Receive: Julius Randle

Timberwolves Receive: Norman Powell, Nicolas Batum, 2031 First-Round Pick

There is one major issue with this proposed deal. Minnesota already has a plethora of guards (with potential) under contract. The Wolves have Edwards, Mike Conley, Donte DiVincenzo, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Rob Dillingham, and Terrence Shannon Jr. This should make quite apparent where the Timberwolves need assistance.

Let’s assume the Wolves’ front office fell in love with Powell’s breakout season, additional moves would be needed afterwards. The 31-year-old is averaging 23.9 points (career-high) on 49.5% shooting and 47.2% from three-point range.

The organization would need to explore trades for DiVincenzo, Alexander-Walker, and Dillingham if Powell joined the lineup. Randle leaves a void in the frontcourt that would need to be filled for a title run to take place. While Naz Reid and Rudy Gobert make a serviceable frontcourt duo, the severe lack of depth behind them would be a problem against plenty of teams in the Western Conference.
