The Houston Astros signed Christian Walker after trading Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs. The team might not be done making moves with a sudden need in the outfield.
While listing moves the Astros need to make, Sportskeeda’s Zachary Roberts urged the Astros to sign Baltimore Orioles switch hitter Anthony Santander.
“The Houston Astros need another bat. They’ve added Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes, but they lost Kyle Tucker, and likely, Alex Bregman. Their outfield is particularly weak, and they’d probably prefer not to have Yordan Alvarez play left field every day,” wrote Roberts. “Fortunately, one of the best corner outfielders in free agency is still available. Anthony Santander would be an excellent addition to replace Tucker’s left-handed bat and fill one of the corner outfield spots.”
Spotrac projects Santander to sign a five-year, $88 million deal in free agency. Santander had a career year for the Orioles. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and also won his first Silver Slugger.
He hit 44 home runs and had his first career 100 RBI season. He was one of four players to hit 40-plus home runs on the season. He, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani were the only players to reach that mark. Needless to say, Santander brings elite power to the plate.
The Astros are likely losing Alex Bregman. They should have room to spend and Santander is the best outfielder left on the market. The other elite option would be Teoscar Hernández who is also coming off a career year. However, Santander fills the need for a left-handed bat left by Tucker.
